Tenerife is a genuine paradise for hikers, offering hiking trips with varying degrees of difficulty, from easy to the most demanding one to the summit of Mount Teide, the highest mountain in Spain. Wild and romantic are the trails across the Anaga Mountains in the northeast of Tenerife. Even the south of this Island(much better known for lazy beach holidays) has beautiful trails in the region of San Lorenzo, Adeje and Arona, in the deep indented Barrancos, and summits offering spectacular vistas across the south of the island, that can be reached only by lonely mountain paths.
We recommend trips to the Anaga and Teno Mountains with their thick forests of laurel and tree heather. This pristine and mostly unspoiled mountain landscape is a paradise for nature lovers. Golfing
Tenerife has developed into a top destination for golfers. Today, the island has nine excellent golf courses, each one of them unique in its very special way, taking up the features and characteristics of the ever-different landscapes.
Some of our holiday homes and apartments are only half a mile or a mile from the nearest golf course. And the next one is usually only about 10 minutes drive away.

Surfing and windsurfing
Surfers, windsurfers and kite surfers find more and more attractive venues for theirs sports on this island. El Médano in the south is a well-known mecca of the Canary Islands windsurfer scene. And there is a good reason, obviously, why a number of spots along the coast of Tenerife are popular venues for international slalom and wave championships. The northern coast (around Bajamar) usually offers excellent conditions for surfing and windsurfing. Especially in winter, the waves are powerful and offer fun for beginners and the most advanced surfers alike.

Tenerife is a typical holiday island. The economy and infrastructure focus primarily on tourists. The first group of 350 English tourists arrived in 1885. Only six years later, Tenerife welcomed 5,000 visitors. And in 2001, the number peaked at 4.8 million. Tourism on Tenerife focuses mostly on the northern coast, around Puerto de la Cruz, and the south, around Los Cristianos. Crops being cultivated on Tenerife include potatoes, bananas, tomatoes and wine. There are motorways leading from Tenerife's capital Santa Cruz to the tourist centres of Puerto de la Cruz, Los Cristianos and Playa de las Americas.
There are two airports: On the one hand, Tenerife North at Los Rodeos‑La Laguna near Santa Cruz. This is the one that is mostly used for traffic among the islands. Puerto de la Cruz is only twenty minutes drive away. On the other hand, Tenerife Sur Reina Sofía in the south of the island. This is the one that is serviced by most international airlines. Puerto de la Cruz is only about ten minutes drive away from here.
Public transport is provided by TITSA. Their green busses and coaches are a cheap, reliable and clean means of transport servicing nearly every town and village on Tenerife. On the main routes from Las Americas and Los Christianos (in the south) to Santa Cruz and Puerto de la Cruz (in the north), TITS uses modern coaches with luggage compartments and air condition. Regular busses to the two airports, Los Rodeos (in the north, IATA code TFN) and Reina Sofía (in the south, IATA code TFS), leave at least once every hour. A direct trip from the central bus station in Santa Cruz to Reina Sofia takes about 50 minutes (bus 341, hourly). Trips from Puerto de la Cruz to Santa Cruz take about 40 minutes (bus 103, hourly, half-hourly at peak times). A direct bus from Puerto de la Cruz to Reina Sofia (bus 340) takes about 85 minutes. However, there are only four per day. Free timetables with maps showing all the routes on Tenerife are available at the central bus stations in Santa Cruz and Puerto de la Cruz and at newsstands. A good idea are the so-called "Bono Bus tickets", also available at the central bus stations. Bono Bus tickets are a sort of prepaid tickets. On middle distances, you save between 20 and 50 per cent of the regular ticket price. Taxis are rather non-expensive.
